Describe the work you submitted for merits.

I tried to pick the works I'm most proud of and happy with. All of them mean so much to me and make me feel like a real designer. I also was really excited to see them up on a wall, especially the shower curtain piece which I haven't interacted a lot with yet. It was so nice to watch it breathe and see how the shadows interacted with the wall, I didn't even plan on a vent being near my piece! Overall, lots of color, lots of texture, lots of fun!

Why did you decide to come to MCAD?

I came to MCAD because it's not too far from my hometown but not too close either. I like having room to grow, but I cannot imagine having gone to a school across the country, especially now with COVID.

I also wanted to go to an art school because I felt like I got into art late in the game. I only took two art courses in high school, and I didn't have much of a background in design either. I think I felt like I needed to prove myself?

Favorite thing about college life (so far)?

My favorite thing about college is that three weeks into the semester until the end of the semester I am begging for a break, but three weeks into a break I'm begging to go back. I just really love meeting new people, talking with them about their practice, and learning new mediums and modes for my own practice.

What inspires you?

Ahhhh what doesn't! I would say that keeping a list of artists and designers I love and doing deep dives into their work really inspires me directly for certain works of mine. but generally, it's talking to my younger brother, watching my partner practice music, late nights laughing with friends, warmer weather, the sun, and soggy grass peaking out under the snow!

Do you have a favorite piece you've made? Describe it!

Man, most of the stuff in my merits installation are my favorites. I really do like my illustration style and use of colors that I use with portraits I do of family and friends or usually use for commissions. My favorite of these is the two I've made for my partner, one with really bright colors from when we visited Seattle and Portland last summer, and one with sunset colors from our first picture together.
