This workshop focuses on the creative possibilities of photography, including traditional and non-traditional methods. Inspiration is drawn from traditional historical and contemporary photographers, with the goal of better understanding personal voices within an image or body of work. Students are immersed in the traditional methods of photography while exploring the darkroom and black and white film. Art educators and artists explore the exposure triangle, understand how light impacts images and examine why and how to capture images in a digital world. In addition to photography focused assignments, the course includes demos, presentations, discussions, work time, and examining the value of group critique. The workshop introduces terms commonly used to discuss photography including a working knowledge of the technical components of a DSLR. The week-long workshop inspires further development of one’s own practice and educators are able to apply what they have learned to their curriculum.
