Faculty member Aki Shibata and People's Library members Kehayr Brown ’19 and Nico Sardina ’19 had their project proposals funded through the Midway Contemporary Arts 2020 Visual Arts Fund.

Shibata is working with Saymoukda Vongsay on the Dear Neighbor Project, which aims to connect St. Paul’s Frogtown and Rondo community members to one another through a collaborative poster-making campaign and a major store window exhibition.

Brown and Sardina submitted a proposal for the People's Library Microgrant Initiative. With the funds they receive, the People’s Library will commission a series of designs from local artists to be screen-printed onto t-shirts by collective members. The funding will also allow them to pay their printmakers and take on paid interns to learn the screen-printing process. Proceeds from the sale of shirts will be directed into microgrants for self-identified Black and Indigenous community members.
