A photograph of Brandt is featured in a clipped, semi-circle design, superimposed on a purple square canvas. His name, as well as the number 43 (the episode #), sit beside the circle, above a set of emoji-style eyes looking downwards.

Creative Boom podcast has aired a new episode featuring an interview with Erik Brandt, the chair of MCAD’s Design department.

Brandt, who began his career as a cartoonist in Japan in 1994, is known for his work as a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale, and his project Ficciones Typografika, a curated body of work from 2013 to 2018 which explored typography in the public space and has since been documented in an eponymous book. At his design studio, Typografika, Brandt’s work has reached international attention, where he’s also received recognition for his “very, very silly short films”.
