DEAN WILSON ART-OF-MAKING SCHOLARSHIP $2,000

Describe the work you submitted for merits.

I submitted a wide range of works: a website archiving small moments, full of light and detail; a lamp made in collaboration with a friend, warm and glowing; a bag made of wood, sewn together as fabric would be.

What are your plans for your senior year? And beyond?

My plan: make intentionally, with care and consideration, notice the unnoticed, listen, learn, converse, exchange, heal, breathe, smile.

Favorite thing about college life (so far)?

The support, inspiration, and joy I have found in my studio community.

What inspires you?

Sunlight, laughter, candles, shadows, full and happy bellies, and friends.

Do you have a favorite piece you've made? Describe it!

My favorite piece I have made is a short story about trees, a beaver, and a maker. It describes my approach to and respect for materials.

Anything you're obsessed with at the moment?

Lemonade.

What makes you happiest?

Watching my favorite people make others happy.
