User Experience (UX) Design and the Mobile App

In this course students will utilize User Experience (UX) Design practices to conceptualize a mobile app. Students will work through testing, designing an app via wireframes, and both paper and clickable prototyping. The outcome of this class will be a case study on a mobile app suitable for a portfolio. This course is ideally suited to those who have taken the Introduction to User Experience Design class or already have a basic understanding of UX concepts.

Class periods will include lecture, discussions, and studio time appropriate to the projects throughout the course. There will be a deeper examination of prototyping tools and testing methods to help the student get a stronger understanding of how UX is used in product development. The class will explore a variety of techniques and methodology including, but not limited to, wireframing, prototyping, card sorting, and a variety of testing methods.

This class is a good fit for anyone looking to have a stronger understanding of how UX can be utilized in a variety of settings, as well as mobile app or UI design. This course is part of the UX certificate, the second of four courses. / Each student will have access throughout the class to a lab workstation equipped with the latest software. / Open to students ages 18 and above. / View complete policies.

Prerequisites: Introduction to User Experience Design or equivalent. Working knowledge of Mac OS X.

What to Bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook, USB drive or cloud storage option for saving work.
