Introduction to Graphic Design

You may love funky t-shirts, posters, magazines, and other graphic materials, but may not quite understand how they are made. This class is the perfect introduction for teens interested in learning more about graphic design. Students will explore image-making, basic typography, and the integration of the two through a series of fun and fast-paced assignments and exercises. All projects will address form, composition, hierarchy, and creativity. Students will develop a design process and a critical visual vocabulary through experimentation, exploration, and group critiques. This computer- based class is held in an MCAD computer lab. / Materials fee of $5 in addition to class tuition. / Open to students ages 15–18. MCAD strictly adheres to these age guidelines and is unable to allow exceptions. / View complete registration policies.

Prerequisites: Working knowledge of Mac OS X. Experience in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator are helpful but not required.

What to bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook; USB drive or cloud storage option for saving work.

If the minimum enrollment is not met by the deadline above, the class will be canceled on this date. Registration will remain open after this date if the minimum enrollment has been met.
