Figure Painting

This class is designed to provide students with the fundamental tools necessary to render the challenging, yet infinitely rewarding subject of the human figure in oil paint. Students will begin by identifying the gesture in short poses, then progress onto exploring anatomy and the underlying structures of the figure. They will then approach planar modeling and how to seek out color relationships via color temperature zones. In doing so, they will transition from simple gestures towards creating a compelling likeness of the model. Working from direct observation of live models in a relaxed and supportive environment, students will develop the elemental skills of figure painting with the goals of both accuracy and individual expression. / Materials fee of $29 in addition to class tuition. / Open to students ages 18 and above. / View complete policies.
