Drawing for Kids: Fundamental to Experimental

Using charcoal, graphite, and ink, students will focus on the expressive side of drawing through collaborative projects and abstract drawing exercises. Students will begin learning foundational skills, such as scale, value, mark making, shape, and the role of composition in the perception of a piece of art. The instructor will expand beyond tradition and address how drawing can be used to tell stories and express emotions and ideas. Throughout the class, students will consider questions such as: How does an artist convey happiness, strength, resolve, preciousness, or sadness through the act of drawing? Students will learn how to use the skills they already have to express themselves creatively through the media of drawing. / Materials fee of $10 in addition to course tuition. / Open to students ages 9–12. / View complete policies.
