Typography is the art of manipulating the visual form of language to enrich and control the meaning. In elementary school students learn to read and understand letterforms, but what about the way they look and feel? Discover how different styles of typography evoke emotions, establish a mood and change an interpretation. In this introductory course, students will study, name, and evaluate the characteristics of letterforms and observe typography in everyday life. The class will include both individual and group activities culminating in an opportunity to design a full-scale typographic poster with letterforms created by the student. / Materials fee of $10 in addition to class tuition. / Open to students ages 12–15. / View complete registration policies.

What to bring: Pen or pencil, notebook or sketchbook. The materials fee for this class will cover the required supplies.

What to wear: Clothes appropriate for messy creativity.
