Comic Book: Inside and Out

In this class, students will examine the skills and concepts necessary to become successful comic artists. Students will look at how comics have changed over the years and discover how truly diverse comic genres can be. Whether superheroes or real-life stories, students will be introduced to the tools and foundations of storytelling that will help them develop their own personal mini-comic to share with their classmates. / Open to students ages 15–18. Prerequisite: Previous drawing experience is strongly recommended.

What to bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook; pad bristol 14" x 17" two-ply plate/smooth; four 2H or H drawing pencils; two non-photo blue pencils; white drafting eraser; cork-bottomed metal ruler, at least 17”; twod round brushes, sizes #1 and #3 (sable round or synthetic alternative); Staedtler or micron .3 & .5 pen; Speedball Cartooning Pen and Nib Project Set (includes pens and nibs); Pro White Opaque Watercolor (1 oz); Ames lettering guide; jar india ink black/noir waterproof; jar or plastic cup for water.

What to wear: Clothes appropriate for messy creativity.
