Analog Black and White Photography

This course is an introduction to black and white photography as a creative medium. The emphasis is on aesthetic, technical, conceptual, and historical concerns in photography. Instruction will include presentations covering basic camera operations and image processing skills in the darkroom. The assignments will direct students toward the development of personal expression and seeing photographically. / Materials fee of $10 and Facilities fee of $25 in addition to course tuition. / Open to students ages 16 and above. / View complete policies.

Each student will have access to the darkroom throughout the course during Media Center hours, unless there is a class in session.

What to bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook; Film SLR camera; 35mm B&W film ISO 100 or 400; B&W RC photo paper luster or glossy (DO NOT OPEN IN THE LIGHT). A complete list of suggested materials will be discussed during the first class meeting.

What to wear: Clothing appropriate for messy creativity.

If the minimum enrollment is not met by the deadline above, the class will be canceled on this date. Registration will remain open after this date if the minimum enrollment has been met.
