Shadow boxes are magical. They are like hand-held stage sets. Celebrate the holidays by creating a small world, a winter village, or other scene in a collapsible paper box, perfect for gift giving.

Class meeting details

This online class will meet via Google Meet. The class meeting will consist of demonstrations, exercises, and activities.

Required materials

Required hardware

A computer, tablet, or smartphone with internet access, a camera, and microphone for class meeting.

Required supplies for the first day

Supplies will cost approximately $10.

  • pen or pencil
  • notebook or sketchbook
  • cutting tools (scissors, xacto blades, cutting board)
  • pencils
  • ruler
  • adhesive (either PVA glue, or glue stick or double stick tape)
  • variety of papers (medium to cover weight for the "box", and lighter weight and translucent paper for the "images"). This can be done as monochromatic (i.e. all white paper for both box and image), or it can be a variety of paper colors.

If the minimum enrollment is not met by the deadline above, the class will be canceled on this date. Registration will remain open after this date if the minimum enrollment has been met.
