Rocking Raptors! (Nature Inspired Art including Observational Drawing) (in person)

Studio Kids is very excited to be partnering with the University of Minnesota’s Raptor Center this week! Ages 6-9

Each morning an Interpretive Naturalist from the Raptor Center introduces students to one or two raptors to observe, learn about, and draw. With the magnificent guest birds, students focus on studying the birds, capturing the birds’ movements, and creating artwork in response to these creatures! Create drawings with different materials while learning about line, form, shape, pattern, and texture. On Friday, all the artworks will come together in a display for friends and family.

Representatives from the Raptor Center will be in person with guest raptors on Tuesday and Thursday and virtually on Monday and Wednesday. The daily schedule includes an hour of presentation and a question and answer session about the daily bird visitors, and an hour of observational drawing and art-making with birds present. The remainder of the class will be art instruction and making with the MCAD instructor. The Raptor Center representative and special bird guests will be at MCAD on Friday afternoon for the family and friends exhibition.

Open to students ages 6–9. MCAD strictly adheres to these age guidelines and is unable to allow exceptions. Please review our complete Summer Youth Camps Policies as well as our General Policies before completing your registration. Covid policies and protocols and information about extended care options through Children's Theatre Company are included in the Summer Youth Camps Policies page.
