Portfolio Prep: Drawing for High School Students (Section 2) (in person) | Minneapolis College of Art and Design

Portfolio Prep: Drawing for High School Students (Section 2) (in person)

This studio drawing class is designed to help motivated visual arts students develop exemplary observational drawings for their portfolios. Ages 15-18

The portfolio is the single most important component of an art school application, and colleges across the nation are stepping up their requirements for admission. Most require several observational drawings, or drawings made from what we see, rather than from the imagination or a photograph. Students in this course work with still life, landscape, interior, and figurative subject matter as they explore the fundamentals of a good drawing: composition; structure; value; line; and expression. Studio instruction is supplemented by art history discussions, visiting artist and MCAD Admissions staff presentations, and regular homework assignments. / Professional nude models may be used in this class. / Both sections 01 and 02 are the same curriculum; choose the section that best fits your schedule. / Materials fee of $6 in addition to course tuition for live models.

Open to students ages 15–18. MCAD strictly adheres to these age guidelines and is unable to allow exceptions. Please review our complete Teen Policies as well as our General Policies prior to completing your registration. Covid policies and protocols are included in the Teen Policies page.
