Picture This: The Art and Craft of Tapestry Weaving (online)

Tapestry weaving has been practiced across cultures for over two thousand years and has been recently revived as a contemporary art form. A weft-faced handwoven textile, these weavings can be created using inexpensive tools and simple weaving techniques - making it an accessible art form for many.

This five-session introductory class offers participants experience in the preparation and warping techniques of a simple frame loom, fundamental weaving, and tapestry techniques, and finishing fiber techniques supported by an experienced tapestry weaver in a collaborative learning environment. Fiber choices are discussed as preparation and use of the cartoon for pictorial design, fiber color mixing, and the place of tapestry in contemporary art and design. / Open to students ages 16 and above.
