Innovation Lab: Inventing and Designing for the Everyday (Product Design) (in person) | Minneapolis College of Art and Design

Innovation Lab: Inventing and Designing for the Everyday (Product Design) (in person)

Through this class co-offered by MCAD and the Bakken Museum students learn and apply the Design Thinking process to design, develop and effectively prototype a product to solve a real world problem. Ages 9-12

Students research and brainstorm to come up with a challenge. Experiential and hands-on learning activities empower students to become innovative thinkers and problem solvers. Students and educators brainstorm, conduct research, create prototypes and explore two-dimensional and three-dimensional design solutions. With their new knowledge, students gain the ability to plan, build and test with guidance. On the last day, students pitch their newly created product and receive feedback from the group.

Students in this class have access to two organizations' expansive facilities and staff throughout the week. The class splits time between MCAD (Monday, Tuesday) and The Bakken Museum (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday). Participants must provide their own transportation to each organization.

Open to students ages 9–12. MCAD strictly adheres to these age guidelines and is unable to allow exceptions. Please review our complete Summer Youth Camps Policies as well as our General Policies before completing your registration. Covid policies and protocols and information about extended care options through Children's Theatre Company are included in the Summer Youth Camps Policies page.
