Drawing for Kids: Fundamental to Experimental (Section 2) (in person) | Minneapolis College of Art and Design

Drawing for Kids: Fundamental to Experimental (Section 2) (in person)

Using charcoal, graphite, and ink, students focus on the expressive side of drawing through collaborative projects and abstract drawing exercises.

Students begin by learning foundational skills, such as scale, value, mark making, shape, and the role of composition in the perception of a piece of art. The instructor then expands beyond traditions and addresses how drawing can be used to tell stories and express emotions and ideas. Throughout the class, students consider questions such as: How does an artist convey happiness, strength, resolve, preciousness, or sadness through the act of drawing? Students learn how to use the skills they already have to express themselves creatively through the media of drawing. / Material fee of $12 in addition to course tuition.

Open to students ages 9–12. View complete policies, including mandatory COVID protocols, before completing your registration. Please note that this classroom is only accessible via stairs. If you need accommodations (i.e. are unable to navigate stairs) please contact our office.
