Using charcoal, graphite, and ink, focus on the expressive side of drawing through collaborative projects and abstract drawing exercises. Ages 12-15 Students in this class learn scale, value, mark making, shape, and the role of composition in the perception of a piece of art. Throughout the class, consider questions such as: How does an artist convey happiness, strength, resolve, preciousness, or sadness through the act of drawing? Through skill building, collaboration, and choice based activities, experiment, play, and develop creative expression through the media of drawing. / Materials fee of $5 in addition to course tuition. Required materials Supplies for the first class pen or pencil notebook or sketchbook #2 pencil sketchbook or white computer paper (several sheets per day) scissors 3 sticks vine charcoal 3 sticks compressed charcoal 5-10 pieces colorful construction paper (any colors) glue stick students’ choice of 1 wet medium (examples: watercolor tray, small ink bottle, food coloring) 18 x 24” drawing paper pad kneaded eraser Supplies will cost approximately $30 (not included in tuition) What to wear Clothes appropriate for messy creativity.
