This workshop will focus on the creative possibilities of photography, including traditional and non-traditional methods. Inspiration will be drawn from traditional historical and contemporary photographers, with the goal of better understanding personal voices within an image or body of work. Students will be immersed in the traditional methods of photography while exploring the darkroom and black and white film. Art educators and artists will explore the exposure triangle, understand how light impacts images and examine why and how to capture images in a digital world. In addition to photography focused assignments, the course will include demos, presentations, discussions, work time, and learn the value of group critique. The workshop will introduce terms commonly used to discuss photography including a working knowledge of the technical components of a DSLR. The week-long workshop will inspire further development of one’s own practice and educators will be able to apply what they have learned to their curriculum. This class will have a one-hour lunch break each day. / Graduate credit is available. Material fee of $35 in addition to course tuition. Open to students ages 18 and above.
