Produce prints in MCAD's beautiful and expansive printmaking studio while devoting studio time to technical investigation and personal exploration. This week-long workshop for art educators will include demonstrations of pressure prints, pochoir, relief printing, and several monotype printmaking techniques. Learn drypoint intaglio on plexiglass plates; experiment with embossing, chine-collé, and experimental plate printing; and discover the monotype process, including how to print by hand and with a press. A general overview will also include: paper preparation; inks; registration techniques; different types of inexpensive printing presses; and gadgets that teachers can add to their classroom toolkits. This workshop includes optional time for informal small group sessions for art educators who teach similar subjects or age groups to share lesson plans. / Non-toxic, water-based inks will be used. / This class meets Tuesday–Friday. / This class will have a one-hour lunch break each day. / Graduate credit is available. The students in this workshop will have access to the printshop outside of class hours to work independently. Open studio hours in the printshop will be Tuesday-Thursday 4:30-8:00 pm and Saturday, June 24, 12:00–5:00 p.m. Art educators need to take their work with them on the last day of the workshop. Participants should consider bringing extra money if mailing work home will be necessary. Any work remaining after the workshop will be disposed of. Required materials Supplies for the first class Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook; supply list. Supplies will cost approximately $60. What to wear Closed-toed shoes; clothes appropriate for messy creativity; long hair should be tied back; an apron if preferred.
