MFA Mentors

Mentors are more than teachers. They are coaches, advocates, critics and colleagues. Here’s how it works: Through a series of interviews, you select a mentor from an extensive list of our faculty and active, professional area artists. You then meet one-on-one with your mentor to discuss your goals as an artist or designer and to develop a strategy of studio work and assigned liberal arts seminars suited specifically to your needs.

You will spend two-thirds of your time as an MFA here doing studio work under the guidance of your mentor. (The other one-third is spent in liberal arts and critique seminars.) Because so much of the program is dedicated to this one-on-one method, your mentor will become one of the most important figures in your college career. That relationship is the heart of our MFA program.
