The Minneapolis College of Art and Design offers a 30-credit Certificate in Graphic Design for students who hold an undergraduate degree and want to develop professional skills and a graphic design portfolio during evening and weekend classes. The Certificate is awarded upon successful completion of a 10-course sequence completed over two years. Students develop print and digital versions of identity systems, small and large print pieces, multi-page publications, and web and motion graphics work. Course content includes ideation, design history, managing workflow and professional relationships, design theory and research methods.


Professional designers are invited to apply for teaching assignments (typically one course per semester) in this exciting program. The Graphic Design Certificate Program is offered through the Continuing Studies Program with full access to state-of-the-art computer labs, print facility, and seminar classrooms at the College.

Advancement Services Coordinator
Institutional Advancement


Primary Function:

Serves as a key member of the Office of Institutional Advancement and supports fundraising activities by overseeing and implementing project plans for cultivating, soliciting and stewardship of the College's various constituencies. Primary resource for the College's fundraising database, ensuring accuracy and integrity in data entry and reporting. Oversees and implements annual fund mailings, tele-fundraising and e-solicitation activities, as well as department events, with assistance from student workers.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Database Administration and Reporting:
    • Work with Vice President of Institutional Advancement to develop and implement all project plans associated with the college's fundraising database, Raiser's Edge.
    • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of all alumni, donor and constituent records through auditing, documentation and training.
    • Oversee the coordination of database issues with the College's other database systems.
    • Serve as the primary contact for the creation and execution of reports and analyses generated using Raiser's Edge.
    • Serve as MCAD's central point person to coordinate, generate and track mailing lists of alumni, donors, prospects, Continuing Studies students, Art Sale attendees and Gallery goers.
  • Gift Processing and Acknowledgement:
    • Responsible for accurate and timely gift entry of all contributions to the college, including pledges, cash and in-kind gifts.
    • Maintain accurate donor records (address, email addresses, alumni employment).
    • Process all stock and online gifts.
    • Generate timely acknowledgements and gift receipts for all gifts.
  • Annual Fund:
    • Oversee, execute and track annual fund solicitations of gifts less than $250 through mailings (3 per year), tele-fundraising with student callers (2 phone-a-thons per year) and e-solicitation campaigns (2 per year).
    • Organize lists, execute solicitations and track results for each campaign, segmenting lists and messages as appropriate.
  • Event Support:
    • With assistance from student workers, coordinate event details for 5-7 advancement events per year.
    • Organize lists and coordinate invitations and RSVPs.
    • Assist in event logistics, including food and beverage, check-in, etc.
    • Institutional Advancement Office software management and integration.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President of Institutional Advancement.

Qualifications:

Education: Associate's degree in communications, journalism, business or a related field with experience working in a business/fundraising office, or equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.


Experience: High degree of computer literacy required. Experience with database programs is required, and a working knowledge of Raiser's Edge is preferred. Experience in database management is preferred. Experience working with gifts and data management in a non-profit environment is desirable.


Skills: Must be detail-oriented and possess strong technology skills, aptitude for accurately compiling financial statistics, a professional demeanor and excellent communication skills when dealing with the public (including major donors, prospects, trustees, students and alumni). Evening and weekend hours may be required.

Executive Assistant to the President
President's Office


Primary Function:

Provide comprehensive administrative support to the President of the College and the Board of Trustees.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • For the President:
    • Represents the office of the President with colleagues, students, the Board of Trustees, and members of the public.
    • Assists the President in strategic planning, marketing, and fund raising through research and writing and other support in coordination with college administrators and faculty.
    • Supports work of college-wide committees as assigned.
    • Manages correspondence for the office of the President and VP for Institutional Advancement, including drafting and final preparation as well as coordination and review of materials prepared by other offices for the signature of the President.
    • Manages the budget of the immediate office of the President, including preparation of the budget, processing of invoices for payment, and ongoing monitoring of expenditures.
    • Oversees the College's master calendar, ensuring that events are coordinated as appropriate and that the calendar is distributed widely.
    • Coordinates and works at special events as assigned, working with other administrators and staff.
    • Supports the President and VP for Institutional Advancement through coordination and maintenance of calendar, management of filing, travel arrangements, supplies and equipment.
    • Manages Raiseredge database for the President's Office.
    • Other responsibilities as required and assigned by the President.
  • For the Board of Trustees:
    • Serves as Assistant Secretary of the Board of Trustees.
    • Coordinates Board and Executive Committee-related activities:
      • With input from the President and Board Chairman, organizes a yearly calendar of meetings for the Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee. Makes all meeting arrangements, including space, catering, and notification of participants.
      • Prepares preliminary agendas for approval by the President and Board Chairman.
      • Prepares and distributes required meeting materials; facilities equipment needs.
      • Attends Board of Trustees and Executive Committee meetings and takes minutes; maintains an official minutes book.
    • Maintains all records for the Board of Trustees and ensures that all information and rosters are kept current.
    • Coordinates trustee attendance at commencement.
    • Miscellaneous duties as required and assigned by the Board Chairman.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: College degree in the Liberal Arts preferred, or equivalent.

Experience: Five years progressively responsible administrative assistant or executive assistant experience.

Skills: Excellent written and oral communications skills; outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to interact professionally with all college and community constituencies. Initiative and ability to work well with minimal supervision. Discretion and maturity to deal with confidential matters. Computer skills in word-processing, spreadsheets and the Internet. Director of Information Technology Services

Primary Function:

Responsible for the overall operation of the College's administrative technology services, facilities and supervision of ITS staffing. Provides project management and programming development for MCAD's information systems and customized applications. Analyzes computer and information business needs and develops solutions from an operational and strategic perspective. Oversees supervision of institution-wide client/server systems administration duties, end-user technical solutions, training and key administrative hardware/software support. Provides secondary, back-up support for mission critical information systems and services. Works with department heads and VP Technology Committee to determine strategic direction of the school's administrative information systems and overall administrative computing development work.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manager:
    • Supervises Information Technology Services staff
    • Oversees System and Network Administration budgets
    • Oversees special initiative project planning and development
    • Design and maintain ITS support policies and documentation
  • Systems Analyst, including but not limited to:
    • Designs, develops and implements comprehensive administrative software systems to support new or existing services
    • Provides key system analysis, project management and programming development activities for MCAD's administrative databases, business and student information systems, file servers, and academic needs
    • Assists in creation of institution-wide data standards and IT database procedural documentation
    • Improves the overall integrity, efficiency and security of institutional databases
    • Identifies, develops and provides administrative training resources and appropriate end-user documentation.
  • Common Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
    • Basic hardware maintenance and network cable pulls, which requires some lifting.
    • Department cross-training and coordination
    • Help Desk support and departmental technical service requests
    • On-call (tertiary) for responding to and resolving systems issues occurring outside of business hours.
    • Oversee and advise MCAD community regarding technology data structures, policies, standards, procedures, methodology, etc.
    • Purchasing research, vendor selection, licensing administration and vendor maintenance
    • Technical guidance and assistance
    • Other projects and duties as assigned by supervisor

Experience:

  • Three years work experience in administration of information systems and client workstations, preferably in an educational environment.
  • Strong understanding of technology and business practices required.
  • Documented experience with appropriate protocols (ex. DHCP, DNS, HTTP, LDAP, SFTP), databases (ex. Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, SQLite), directory servers (ex. OpenLDAP), supported server operating systems (ex. Linux, Mac OS X, Windows), workstation operating systems (ex. Mac OS X, Windows), interpreted programming languages (ex. Bourne Shell, Perl), and version control (ex. Git, Subversion).
  • Working knowledge of student information systems (ex. Jenzabar EX), human resources information systems (ex. Ceridian Source), report authoring (ex. InfoMaker, Crystal Reports, FRx), and multi-server backup applications (ex. Retrospect).
  • Familiarity with compiled programming languages (ex. C).

Skills:

  • Aptitude for relational database and server management including system administration, design, and report writing.
  • Ability to systematize and structure individual components.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals.

Program Coordinator, Sustainable Design Certificate
Continuing Studies


Primary Function:

To develop an innovative program of Sustainable Design education for an online post-baccalaureate program. To develop curriculum, recruit teachers and students as well as promoting and marketing the program.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare annual budget rationale and request for the program, submitting recommendations to the Director of Continuing Studies.
  • Act as the academic advisor to all students in the program.
  • Prepare the course schedule and assign teaching schedules.
  • Teach 6-9 credits per year in the Program.
  • Recruit and hire new and replacement instructors as needed.
  • Conduct teaching performance evaluations for all instructors who teach in the program and contribute input to performance evaluations for faculty from MCAD Departments who teach in the program, if requested by their Department Chairs.
  • Evaluate curriculum and instructional program for continuous improvement, recommend appropriate actions and implement approved changes.
  • Maintain archive of syllabi, course descriptions, assignment sheets and biographical informational on instructors who teach in the program.
  • Develop and implement academic policies and advising procedures for the program congruent with College and Continuing Studies mission and goals.
  • Assist with promotion and marketing of the program.
  • Responsible for improved student recruitment and retention.
  • Maintain enrollment data on students in the program.
  • Submit an annual report with enrollment and budget statistics and analysis, and recommendations for improved student enrollment, curriculum improvement and overall continuous program improvement.
  • Meet on a regular basis with directors of the academic support areas as needed regarding the program activities and the infrastructure required to support it.
  • Research and recommend strategies for technical infrastructure and necessary infrastructure improvements needed to support the program.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Continuing Studies and the Director of Online Learning.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Master's Degree or equivalent, desired. Design undergraduate education, desired. Teaching experience, online preferable; professional credentials in the field of Sustainable Design, required.


Experience: Demonstrated evidence of professional work in Sustainable Design, of interest and ability to teach across the program curriculum, of a history of working with instructors and professional community, required.


Skills: Demonstrated managerial skills and leadership potential. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and afford vision, guidance and advocacy for program. Demonstrated teaching or training skills and knowledge of online instruction, required.

Service Bureau Coordinator


Primary Function

Oversee day-to-day operations, routine printing/copy services, and maintain the equipment and systems for the MCAD Service Bureau. Assist with inventory tracking, department chargebacks and job processing.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process order forms and oversee completion of customer copy/print/scan/binding jobs as available/needed.
  • Work with entire MCAD community on custom print orders, including in-house projects, class assignments, DesignWork projects and over-sized prints.
  • Track all job orders and appropriate processing in Point-of-Sale (POS) system. Assist Director of Print Technology in verifying accuracy of monthly department chargebacks.
  • Assist with reconciling department billing and chargebacks based on weekly sales reports and inventory tracking systems.
  • Work with Director of Print Technology in maintaining and tracking of products and inventory from POS system and print management queues.
  • Assist with training, quality control, and time processing of orders by student staff.
  • Assist with copy editing and creation of new training/references materials and KnowledgeBase articles.
  • Calibrate printers and/or monitors in Service Bureau and Digital Photography Lab.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose basic equipment and/or software issues and promote print-production best practices.
  • Provide primary support and troubleshooting for on-demand Epson printing stations and adherence to job tracking and payment.
  • Assist with or give classroom demonstrations/presentations and one-on-one consultation with academic and administrative customers.

Qualifications

Education: Associate degree or equivalent in Design or related field, required. BS/BFA in relevant field preferred.


Experience: General print/copy service and computer experience. Technical knowledge of MAC and PC hardware/software as well as print/design concepts. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite a must. Experience working in a college environment a plus.


Skills: Ideal candidate will possess excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal and organizational skills, show initiative, be able to prioritize work, be detail-oriented, be flexible, able to work independently, and willing to work and learn in a demanding yet fun environment. Proven technical ability and demonstrated expertise working with Mac OS as well as familiarity with Windows machines.

Public Safety Officer (On-Call)

The Minneapolis College of Art and Design accepts applications on an on-going basis for on-call Public Safety Officers in our Public Safety Office. On-call positions are non-benefits eligible.


Primary function is to provide a safe and secure campus environment by: protecting life and property; preventing and responding to crimes; operating the communications center; and assisting the college community by responding to requests of service. All duties will be carried out in accordance with local, state and federal laws, as well as college policies.


Candidates will be eligible for continued training after probationary period, which includes certification in Defensive Tactics, First Aid & CPR. All required uniforms and necessary equipment will be supplied by the college.


Qualifications include: High school diploma, or equivalent, required; Associates Degree, preferred. First Aid and CPR certification, preferred. General security experience, particularly in a college environment, preferred. Understanding of law enforcement and the key issues that impact a security officer. Must possess excellent written and oral communication and customer service skills, as well as interpersonal skills. Must have ability to prioritize when dealing with multiple high-priority situations. Must have valid driver's license. Satisfactory background and DMV check required. The starting wage range is $12.70 to $13.50 per hour, depending on experience and education.
