MCAD's Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Visual Arts program provides a chance for students who have already completed a bachelor's degree to acquire advanced skills and build a strong portfolio of work. Ideal candidates are those with a strong studio background in the area they wish to study and a solid portfolio of intermediate-level work. Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Visual Arts students choose their courses from the undergraduate offerings with the help of an advisor--it's a self-directed program that requires students to "jump right in" with degree students to further their studies in a given discipline. This is a 30-credit program. Students may attend part-time but must complete the program within two years.

What it Costs The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Visual Arts program consists of 30 credits, which cost $985 per credit at MCAD. Contact financial aid for information on student loans which can be applied toward this cost for students attending the program full-time.

How to Apply

If you're ready to apply for MCAD's Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Visual Arts program, these are the requirements:

Application Form and Fee
Complete the online application form, which includes a nonrefundable $50 application fee. Acceptable methods of payment are listed on the application form.

Statement of Interest
Explain why you are interested in the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Visual Arts program; discuss examples of personal motivation; and describe your prior visual arts. Your statement should be no longer than two double-spaced pages using 12-point type. This statement will help the committee determine whether this program will help you achieve your educational and professional goals.

Letter of Recommendation
Include a letter that attests to your creative ability, self-discipline, academic record, and commitment to the visual arts. This letter should be from an academic mentor, instructor, or advisor, or from a professional supervisor, client or employer.

Resume
Submit a resume outlining your prior educational and professional experience.

Transcripts
An undergraduate degree is required for this program. We will need official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you've attended. Applicants must arrange for their official transcripts to be sent directly to the Continuing Studies Office. Transcripts marked "Issued to Student" will not be accepted.

Portfolio
Submit 20 examples of your strongest work. Please include images that show detail along with general images. A CD-ROM containing still images in JPEG, PDF or PowerPoint format is acceptable. Film, video, and animation work may be submitted on DVD-ROM. Hard copies of work and carousel trays of slides will not be accepted.

Portfolio Checklist
Include a portfolio checklist indicating each work by title, date, media and dimensions and match the numbers to the numbering system in your portfolio. If the work is a collaborative effort, you must include your role in its creation and development.

Please note all portfolios are submitted and returned at the applicant's expense. If you wish to have your portfolio returned, please include a letter requesting its return along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Although every precaution is taken to protect portfolios, MCAD is not responsible for loss or damage during shipping. Portfolios will not be returned to accepted applicants who choose to enroll in the Post-Baccalaureate program.

Application Deadlines
For enrollment in the Fall
The deadline for application is February 15, for enrollment in the Fall.

For enrollment in the Spring
The deadline for application is October 15, for enrollment in the Spring.

These are not postmark deadlines. Applications may be submitted by mail or in person to the Continuing Studies Office.
