Jaime Hernandez and Zak Sally

Celebrated comic artist Jaime Hernandez (Fantagraphics) makes a rare Twin Cities appearance to discuss his work and the release of Love and Rockets: New Stories #1 with MCAD Visiting Artist Zak Sally (La Mano 21) in a Twin Cities Book Festival event co-sponsored by Rain Taxi Review of Books and MCAD's Comic Art Program.

Along with his brother Gilbert, Jaime Hernandez is co-creator of Love and Rockets, the iconic series that virtually defined alternative comics in the 1980s. Combining their interests in music and comics by incorporating the distinctive look of punk rock, Los Bros. Hernandez transformed the much-hyped and often misunderstood L.A. punk netherworld into a very real, habitable place populated with authentic human beings rather than stereotypes.

Alan Moore calls Hernandez "one of the 20th century's most significant comic creators." Don't miss this opportunity to hear him discuss his work with one of the leading lights in the Twin Cities comic art community.

This event is free and open to the public. It is made possible in part by funds provided by the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature.
