Deluxx Fluxx in NYC

What do you get when Brooklyn-based duo Faile and collaborator Bast take over a disused store front on the Lower East Side? Deluxx Fluxx, a functional video arcade will be open to the public from April 30 to May 27. The installation is entirely interactive, and invites viewers to play a round of psychedelic foosball and take part in the art itself. It is the artists' intention that viewers will forget they are looking at art, and be captivated by the carnivalesque.

MCADers involved in the creation of Deluxx Fluxx include Patrick Miller '02 (Faile), Eric Ishii-Eckhardt '01 and Matthew Cooley '03 (Adapted Studio), Justin Bakse '01, and Greg Schomburg '06.

Deluxx Fluxx was covered recently in the Village Voice and the New York Times.

On Tuesday, April 20 MCAD hosted its first TASK Party. TASK, founded by artist Oliver Herring, is an improvisational event with a very simple structure and very few rules. The idea is that each participants picks up a task, usually involving building something out of construction paper, foil, cardboard, markers, ladders, balloons, etc and uses it as a means to interact with other people. MnArtists.org has the full story.
