Working with Americans for the Arts, the Walker Art Center, and SFMOMA, MCAD is leading a campaign to push the word "arts" into Twitter's trending topics on April 13, National Arts Advocacy Day.

Join the movement at Tweet Arts Day and help MCAD promote the arts.



Mike Perry Lecture

On March 25, Mike Perry '03 gave a lecture in conjunction with the opening of his latest show, Lost in the Discovery of What Shapes the Mind.

The exhibition runs through April 18 in the MCAD Gallery.

David Rathman Rumbles in the Jungle

Artist David Rathman '82 was recently featured in an article in the New York Times discussing his latest series 'Rumble in the Jungle.'

The film and corresponding watercolors are based on the 1974 boxing match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in Zaire, Africa.

The series was commissioned by No Mas and Muhammad Ali Enterprises to commemorate the competition's 35th anniversary.

Floyd on the Floor

Kelly Nipper '93 is featured in an article (registration required) in the prestigious contemporary art magazine ARTFORUM. Kelly talks about "Floyd on the Floor," a multimedia series she has been working on since 2005 and continually adds components to.

Her most recent addition is the video "Weather Channel," which recently went on view in the Whitney Biennel, and the performance and video titled "Shifting Shapes" that will be exhibited this month at Migros Museum fuer Gegenwartkunst, in Zurich.



Seeworthy and Noteworthy

  • MCAD's bachelor of science: visualization students have been selected to present their work at the Science Museum of Minnesota in an exhibit called Visualizing the Future. The exhibition features, and is curated, by MCAD students expressing what and how they see the future and will run from Monday, April 12 through Friday, May 21 in on the sixth floor at the Science Museum.
  • Anita White '74 will be presenting her work at the show Ahhh! from April 10 through May 8 at the Vine Arts Center.
  • Laura Fulk '07 will debut her first ready-to-wear collection during MN Fashion Week 2010. The Line To the Ends of the Universe, is inspired by the idea of a journey in search of the beautiful vastness and mystery of the universe.
  • Rhea Pappas '08 is doing a show titled Beneath the Surface by Rhea Pappas at the Icebox Framing and Gallery in Minneapolis. The show opens Saturday, May 15.
