I want to follow up leads that started for
me in the MCAD Freshman Seminars, Chaplin, Welles, Riefenstahl, well they
really started when I started working on films because I was working on
plays,which I was working on because ... and I will continue a study of
Greek history, both ancient and modern, and also of the American Civil War
and of the Enigma Code and the music of Kurt Weill and I'd like to continue
with the study of silent films and especially the comedies, since I now
think that all the really great films were made before I was born and then
I'll really look at Buster Keaton, and then at the way that turn of the
century stage machinery and special effects prepared the audience for the
narrative devices used in film and I'll read more of Charles Dickens and
Jane Austen and I intend to continue to follow up on the role of code breaking
in the development of computers and I may look into more about their use
in personalizing education and I am continuing
to teach Shakespeare by mail through
the University of Minnesota, Department of Independent Study, because I
really enjoy those lessons myself and maybe I will learn to fish or to birdwatch
and how to tell weeds from wildflowers ... AND ... AND ... AND ... :
