Childhood:
Born in Duluth, Minnesota, November 25, 1930. Left as soon as possible.
According to my baby book the only cute thing I ever said as a child was,
"Hard times, Daddy, hard times." I was a Depression baby. My father
worked on a telephone line crew. We went where the blizzards went. I grew
up all over northern Minnesota. I attended nine grade schools.
Status
Two children, Tymothy Shaw and Tibetha Wozniak.
Two grandchildren, Sophia and Kate Wozniak.
Two step-grandchildren, Romala Melum and Chris Wozniak.
Very happily divorced. Ex-wife Sarah teaches advertising.
Have a great long term relationship with Vickie Poulakis.
Teaching:
Very Long Ago
St. Mel HS, Chicago, 52-4. I survived that and I loved it. Everything has
been easy since. I taught five classes and also coached debate, intra-mural
soccer, monitored the cafeteria and did theater design.
USAFI, Korea, 8th grade American History for
sergeants who were required to complete this course, unless they had been
awarded the Silver Star for valor. Three lifers were eager to learn, I remember
them very well. 56.
Long Ago
US Army Reserves. Fort Snelling. Minneapolis. Cryptanalysis 58.
SUNY, College at Cortland. 58-9. A first opportunity to teach literature
at a college level, to begin seriously writing and to visit New York City.
Univ. of Minn. 59-73. GI Bill, lots and lots of teaching assistantships,
concentrations in medieval lit, writing poetry, philosophy, organizing.
Recently
MCAD, 69 - 96. +++++ Well, just look at what it has done to me.
Univ. of Minn. I currently teach Shakespeare
by correspondance. I've had students on a mountain top in Africa and
under the polar ice cap.
ELI, (Elder Learning Institute) U of Mn. 95. Studying Romeo and Juliet
with eight wise women who knew Romeo is a jerk. They had raised one.

plays have been staged and annecdotes.

I have been an actor in inumerable student films, most often playing the
role of homeless derelict set upon by thugs.

I published lots of poems.
I had developed two characters, Big Poet and Little Poet, who argued about
poetry and art and life and such.
They were selected for an anthology of avant gardé conceptual work
called Breakthrough Fictioneers.
When I found out that I was writing Experimental Art, I turned to writing
formal sonnets.
The script of the play, Sleeping Beauty - Kabuki, is in an anthology,
Children's Theater Plays. It has a red cover and is in the MCAD Library.
I published other things in other places.
